Historic Dorchester is in the heart of Thomas Hardy country and hosts many museums and a wealth of attractions for all ages. The centre of Dorchester is less than 10 minutes walk away, with an excellent mix of local and high street shops, and many restaurants and cafes. The Brewery Square Complex is now well underway with shops, restaurants, Odeon multiplex cinema, and a wonderful open fountain area to site around. Dorchester also has its own four screen Plaza Cinema, just 10 minutes walk from the cottage, which screens a variety of films each week including latest releases. Ticket prices start from just £2.50 on weeknights. In the future there will be the new Maltings Theatre in Brewery Square.
The Blue Raddle in Church Street in the town centre is a traditional and cosy traditional pub, usually busy and friendly, serving a wide range of beers and ciders and fantastic food. They also welcome dogs (but not children!). Book a table if you want to eat on a Saturday night.
There is a Prezzo on High Street West is housed in one of the town's few remaining timber-framed buildings where the infamous Judge Jefferies had lodgings. A number of restaurants are now open on Brewery Square, including Zizzi's, Wagamammas, Nandos, Pizza Express, Vivo Lounge and Carluccio's. The Baker's Arms, a traditional pub is a short walk from the cottage, just across the railway line. The Trumpet Major, a family friendly pub restaurant serving food all day, every day, is just 5 minutes walk from the house. |
