Dorset and the West CountryDorset is an area of outstanding natural beauty with hidden villages, charming market towns, historic cities and many National Trust properties.
Sandy beaches are at Studland, Swanage, Weymouth and Lyme Regis, and are all within easy access. There are many more rural beaches, as well as Chesil Beach, the 18 mile shingle bank, all within half an hour's drive. The nearest beach, Ringstead Bay, is 8 miles by car. Weymouth Beach is 9 miles from the cottage (the train takes just ten minutes and the station is an easy walk from the cottage). It is 12 miles drive to Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door, both areas having large car parks. Corfe Castle is a great place to visit and the steam train can be taken from there into Swanage. The South-West Coast Path allows walking on unspoiled coastline from Poole to Lyme Regis and inland there are 3000 miles of footpaths to explore. |
